Sniper Elite: Resistance Preview: Commitment to Player Freedom Should Make You Care

I never really knew much about Sniper EliteI have a part of Sniper Elite V2 back then, and I remember it mostly as the game where you could shoot a Nazi in the groin and be rewarded with a gross x-ray clip of his nether regions exploding – oh, and sometimes there are zombies.

I knew that the game was about sniping, but what I didn’t know was that Sniper Elite: Resistance has more in common with immersive stealth sims like Hitman: World of Assassination And Metal Gear Solid 5 than I initially thought. Considering these are two of the best games of the last generation, you could say I was excited to find out while playing Resistance at a preview at Gamescom 2024.

I was taken to a Nazi-occupied city in France and given a list of objectives to check off, but first I had to sneak in through the city's high walls. And as mentioned, there are multiple ways to do this. Sniper Elite games. You can of course take out the enemies that are on the lookout for intruders, you can climb the towers on the corner of the wall and stealthily take out the guards in close combat, and there was even what looked like a way out of a sewer that I couldn't quite figure out. Even if you infiltrate this big city and have to deal with three enemies, Sniper Elite: Resistance was a hit in terms of choice, delicious sniping, and insanely entertaining gameplay that made the previously mentioned stealth games so exciting.
