Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said “a deal is not close but we hope it will happen” in the case of Ivan Toney after the striker was not named in the squad for Sunday's win over Crystal Palace.

Toney was not allowed to take part in the game despite being fully fit because Saudi Pro League team Al Ahli were interested in the match.

Frank confirmed that transfer interest was the reason for Toney not being named in his squad, and the Brentford manager confirmed that the decision was made jointly by him and the club on Thursday.

“A deal is not imminent yet, but we hope it will happen,” said Frank after Sunday's game, which Brentford won 2-1.
