Part of Hilo Street closed while police execute search warrant and arrest couple: Big Island Now

Out of an abundance of caution to protect tenants, the community and police officers, Big Island Police closed a section of Ponahawai Street in Hilo near a residence in the 600 block for approximately 90 minutes around 6 a.m. Sunday morning while they executed a search warrant and arrested a Hilo couple on a variety of charges related to multiple car thefts and an abuse incident.

The couple, 31-year-old Dillon Royden Daimen Revila and 33-year-old Latoya-Lynn Pilialoha Spalding-Poepoe, were also wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants.

No injuries were reported to the suspects, other tenants of the apartment building, or police personnel.

The road has now been reopened.

The Hawaii Police Department's Special Operations Team and crisis negotiators with members of the Area I Crime Reduction Unit and the Criminal Investigation Division executed the search warrant on the residence, where Revila and Spalding-Poepoe were eventually taken into custody.

Revilla was charged with:

  • Two cases of unauthorized driving of a motor vehicle.
  • Two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
  • Two counts of second-degree assault.
  • Criminal damage to property in the first degree.
  • First degree theft.
  • Habitual property crime.
  • Driving without a valid driver’s license.
  • Abuse of a family or household member.
  • Violations of the conditions of release on bail, probation or under supervision (warrant).
  • Summons or arrest of the accused on probation; detention without bail (arrest warrant).

His bail was set at $134,000.

Spalding-Poepoe was charged with:

  • Unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
  • Habitual property crime.
  • Three counts of violating the conditions of release on bail, probation or supervision (arrest warrants)
  • Fourth degree theft (arrest warrant)

Her bail was set at $46,900.

The investigations into car thefts and abuse cases have spanned the last few months in various locations on the island.
