How much Will Levis and the Titans starters will play in the season finale against the Saints

0

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan wants quarterback Will Levis and almost all of his regular players to spend a lot of time on the field in the final preseason game.

The Titans' regular players did not play in Saturday's 16-15 preseason win over the Seattle Seahawks. But Callahan said that with a few exceptions, all of his regular players are scheduled to play well into the final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday (1 p.m., WKRN-2).

“My intention is to use the starters,” Callahan said Sunday. “They're going to play a significant number of snaps in a preseason game. I'd like to see our starting offensive line play somewhere in the range of three series. On defense … I'd like to see some of the guys that didn't play last night play a little bit this week.”

Callahan listed five exceptions. Defensive linemen Jeffery Simmons, Harold Landry III and L'Jarius Sneed will miss the game due to health concerns, as they did in the season opener when the starters each played two series. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie is still working on his recovery from a calf injury, and Callahan said they hope to have Awuzie back on the practice field after the New Orleans game. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins is “still making progress” with his knee injury, and the Titans are still hoping he will be back for the season opener.

Tight end Josh Whyle, also one of the Titans' potential starters, is still in concussion protocol, but Callahan said he has a chance to return in time for the game this week.

Below the starting lineup, Callahan provided several injury updates as the Titans wrapped up training camp.

  • WR Kearis Jackson has a bruised knee and is questionable for his participation against the Saints.
  • WR Kyle Philips is “likely out” this week with a hamstring injury.
  • RB Jabari Small is in concussion protocol and is unlikely to practice this week.
  • DL TK McLendon Jr. suffered a turf toe and will be out for “maybe a couple of weeks” to recover.
  • LB Otis Reese is in concussion protocol. Callahan did not announce a timetable for his return.
  • P Ryan Stonehouse will “possibly” play punter and holder in the New Orleans game, the final step after his return from injury.
