Murder victim arrested in York after fatal assault

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal attack in York.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was found by police after they were called to the area around Roche Avenue and Bellfarm Avenue at around 04:45 BST on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, North Yorkshire Police said.

Another 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a fight. Both men remained in custody, police said.

Police said a cordon would remain in place throughout the weekend while investigations continued.

Police are conducting “extensive investigations in the area,” including obtaining video surveillance footage.

A spokesman said: “We understand that this incident may cause concern among the public.

“However, we assume that this is an isolated case and are working hard to determine the circumstances.”
