Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, said that if Russia used nuclear weapons, Ukraine would be “very happy” because the Kremlin would no longer have any allies.

Quote: “The concern is that the escalation on the part of Ukraine is an attempt to force Russia to take asymmetrical actions. Let us think about the use of nuclear weapons. I am convinced that Ukraine would be happy if Russia or we used tactical nuclear weapons there. That would make them happy.”

Lukashenko claims that the use of nuclear weapons would deprive Russia and Belarus of their allies.

“Then we would probably have very few allies. In general, there would be no sympathetic countries left. Because they are involved in what is happening,” Lukashenko said.

“Secondly, it is about nuclear weapons. We have already formed a certain negative image of these nuclear weapons. So you want [us to do it – ed.]”, added the Belarusian leader.

Background: In June, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin could order the use of tactical nuclear weapons if his army faced a “catastrophic defeat” in Ukraine.
