Wanted South Carolina man bites police officer while attempting to arrest him

A man wanted in South Carolina pulled out a gun and bit a police officer during his arrest, police said.

Marty Benjamin Miller, who has 16 arrest warrants, was identified Friday night by a police officer on duty in the Nicholtown community of Greenville, South Carolina, Greenville police told Fox Carolina.

The officer approached Miller at a home on McCullough Street and attempted to arrest him.

Miller refused to comply with the officer's orders and attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle.

Another officer came to assist and both officers attempted to prevent Miller from leaving as he continued to resist arrest.

When Miller resisted, he pulled out a gun, but officers managed to disarm him, police said.

The suspect managed to severely bite one of the officers, police said.

Officers then deployed a police dog, which Miller said bit.

Miller was taken into custody and hospitalized for medical treatment. His bail was set at $20,000.

The officers involved in the incident were also taken to hospital.

Miller was wanted on charges of shoplifting, failure to stop for police and texting while driving. He is also expected to face additional charges related to Friday's incident, including resisting arrest by assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a violent felon and obstructing police officers.
