Tennessee Titans coach bluntly judges Hassan Haskins in RB3 battle

The Tennessee Titans have three running backs competing for one or two spots on the running backs depth chart behind Tyjae Spears and Tony Pollard. The group consists of Hassan Haskins, Julius Chestnut and Jabari Small.

None of the three were particularly convincing in the off-season and in the first two preseason games, and the fact that the blocking work of the substitute offensive players in the test games was, to say the least, lackluster did not help.

Following the Week 2 preseason win over the Seattle Seahawks, in which Haskins had the best performance, head coach Brian Callahan gave his assessment of all three backs, noting that both Small and Chestnut ran better than Haskins, but also praised Haskins for his work on special teams.

“I think Julius played well for himself, he stepped up. He played well overall and did everything we ask of a running back, so he got the first few runs,” Callahan said, according to ESPN's Turron Davenport. “And then I think Jabari Small played really well, too, so we have some competition there.

“And I think (Small and Chestnut) have probably played a little bit better than Hassan at this point, and Hassan is obviously a demon on special teams, and that's important too. So the competition continues, and we still have another week to go.”

While it's certainly not good news for Haskins that Small and Chestnut are running better, he was actually the most consistent ball carrier in the two preseason games after Chestnut was quiet in Week 1 and Small was quiet in both games.

This, combined with his skills on special teams, could be enough to pave his way to the top.
