Alien TV series gets exciting update amid the success of Romulus

The eagerly awaited Alien: Earth Series receives a major update courtesy of showrunner and Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley. The update comes as Alien: Romulus was a success in the cinema.




In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley was asked if he expected Alien: Earth to become a career-defining project, just like Fargo. “It could be the next 10 years of my life, for sureHawley replied. When asked what the status of the upcoming series was and whether it was still on schedule for a 2025 release, Hawley replied: “We have just. I'm in post-production and editing. Of course, there's a big visual effects component that takes time. But I couldn't be happier with the show we made. If people wanted a television series based on the world of Foreigner, I think I will give them something special.”

Development of the live-action series, the Alien: Earth was first announced in 2019. In late 2020, it was confirmed that Hawley would helm the series as writer, director, and showrunner, while franchise creator Ridley Scott would serve as executive producer. The series is intended to serve as a prequel to Scott's 1979 original. Foreignerand will largely avoid the more esoteric ideas introduced in films like 2012's The Last Man. Prometheus in favor of a deeper look into the style and mythos of the earlier parts of the series, especially the events surrounding the ominous and notorious Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

The latest entry in the Foreigner Franchise, Alien: Romuluswas released on August 16th and was praised by critics and fans alike. On the opening day and at the previews of the film Alien: Romulus grossed over 18 million dollars at the box office. Directed by Fede Álvarez, Alien: Romulus Cailee Spaeny plays Rain, an orphaned miner guarded by David Jonsson's Andy, an android programmed by Rain's late father to be a surrogate brother. In the film, the two embark on a mission to recover cryonic stasis chambers from an abandoned spaceship, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a horde of cannibalistic Xenomorphs for their troubles.

Will there be another Alien vs. Predator movie?

In relation to which other projects Alien: Romulus could lead to this before its theatrical release, Álvarez referred to the much maligned Alien vs Predator Crossover series. On the question of whether a third Alien vs Predator could take shape in the near future, Álvarez said: “Maybe it's something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan. [Trachtenberg]” Alvarez continued: “Maybe we should do it like [Quentin] Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have [From] From dusk till dawn. I will direct one half and he will direct another half… It depends on how well the [Romulus] does if people want to see that.”

Alien: Romulus is now in theaters. Alien: Earth currently has no planned release date.
