The trailer for “Paddington 3” offers a first look at Olivia Colman’s character

Paddington-3 – also known Paddington in Peru – is coming to theaters in November and we can finally enjoy the first trailer.

As the title suggests, in the highly anticipated new film, Paddington travels to Peru with the Brown family and Mrs. Bird to visit Aunt Lucy at the home for old bears.

When they arrive there, however, Aunt Lucy is nowhere to be seen and Paddington learns from the Reverend Mother (Olivia Colman), who runs the home, that she is on “some kind of mission” and they have no idea where she has gone.

So Paddington sets off into the forest with the daredevil Hunter Cabot (Antonio Banderas) to reunite with Aunt Lucy.

At a trailer preview today (June 12) with Digital SpyDirector Dougal Wilson explained why the third film was bound to cause disruption by moving from London.

“The first film gives us some information about where Paddington came from and how he found his home in London. And in the second story, he almost loses that home but in doing so, he solidifies his community in London and his friends,” he said.

“We thought it would be very appropriate for the third film to go back to Peru, but this time to take his London friends and his community and have an adventure there. And in that way fill in some of the missing pieces of the puzzle of what we didn't learn in the first two films.”

Perhaps most excitingly, Wilson revealed that Olivia Colman has a musical number in Paddington 3, which was likely hinted at in the trailer with the brief, Sound of Music-esque shot of the Reverend Mother with a guitar.

In Paddington in Peru, Ben Whishaw returns as Paddington, while Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin return as the Browns.

However, Emily Mortimer will take over the role of Mrs. Brown from Sally Hawkins after Hawkins previously stated that it was “the right time to hand the reins over to someone else.”

In addition to Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas, the third film also features newcomer Carla Tous as Hunter Cabot's daughter Gina, a role originally intended for Rachel Zegler.

Dougal Wilson takes over as director, replacing Paul King, who directed the first two films. However, King co-wrote the story with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton.

Commenting on his decision to step down as director, King said: “After ten years of working on the Paddington films, I have absurdly protective feelings towards the little bear and I'm delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big screen adventure.”

Paddington in Peru will be released in UK cinemas on November 8, 2024 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
