The Tennessee Titans' biggest winners and losers from their Week 2 preseason win

0

The Tennessee Titans won another close preseason game on Saturday, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 16-15 to improve their record to 2-0. Only one preseason game remains, as the Titans travel to New Orleans next weekend to face the Saints.

As mentioned last week, the outcome of these games is not as important as what we learn about the squad. After this game, we will know more about who has a chance of making the selection and who probably doesn't.

Last week, Chance Campbell was the star. This week, Campbell had another great performance, as did rookie wide receiver Jha'Quan Jackson. Malik Wills and Mason Rudolph had plenty of opportunities to show what they can do, and several rookies showed up with timely plays.

Now let's identify the biggest winners and losers from this encounter that saw the regular players sit out.

Winner: LB Chance Campbell

As mentioned above, Chance Campbell had another great performance. The former sixth-round pick once again led the team in tackles, collecting eight, one of which was for a loss. Campbell now has 17 tackles in two preseason games.

While Campbell probably won't be seriously considered for a starting position, the LB is firmly in the running for a backup position at this point. Once viewed as just another member, Campbell is proving he belongs on the final roster.

Losers: Backup offensive linemen

The offensive line's substitutes also left a lot to be desired on Saturday. The unit incurred a total of five penalties, two from John Ojukwu and one each from Andrew Rupcich, Leroy Watson and Jaelyn Duncan.

Additionally, the unit allowed three sacks and struggled to create running lanes. Hassan Haskins averaged 2.6 yards per attempt, while Jabari Small managed just 1.9. It would have been nice if one of Ojukwu, Watson, Rupcich or Duncan could have proven they belonged, but they couldn't.

Winner: TE David Martin-Robinson

For the second week in a row, UDFA tight end David Martin-Robinson made the most of his opportunities. The TE caught three passes for 38 yards and the only target DMR missed was a missed throw that resulted in an interception.

After the game, head coach Brian Callahan called DMR a “nice surprise” and said the rookie is “trying.”

The UDFA now has two solid games on his resume and could displace Nick Vannett and Thomas Odukoya in the fight for a roster spot.

Loser: RB Hassan Haskins

Hassan Haskins had a good game last week and was surely hoping to repeat that success this weekend. Instead, Haskins struggled to get anything going, managing just 13 yards on five carries. Haskins was targeted once but was unable to catch the ball

After the game, Callahan mentioned that Julius Chestnut and Jabari Small “played a little better” than Haskins, but the competition was still open. Not a good sign for Haskins, who had hoped to make a comeback after missing all of 2023.

Winner: WR Jha'Quan Jackson

Jha'Quan Jackson has been in top form lately. The rookie receiver had an impressive week of joint practice sessions and continued to show his strengths on Saturday. Jackson led the team with four catches for 57 yards and had a 14-yard punt return.

Jackson is proving he can contribute on both offense and special teams. This versatility will help the rookie stand out from the crowd and should earn him a spot on the roster.

Five of the WR spots are likely already taken, and Jackson is making a big push to secure what may be the last spot.

Winner: OLB Jaylen Harrell

I mentioned recently that the Titans needed at least one edge rusher to step in during the second week of the preseason. Well, Michigan rookie Jaylen Harrell answered that call and put in an exceptional performance against the Seahawks.

The rookie collected three tackles and two sacks. No other edge rusher collected a sack, so Harrell should have clearly separated himself from the rest at this point. Despite the good news surrounding Arden Key, Harrell's rise is tremendous.

Winner: K Brayden Narveson

The rookie is unlikely to make the roster due to the presence of Nick Folk, but he may have turned heads around the league with his performance in the second week of the preseason.

Narveson made all three of his field goals, including one from 59 yards and another from 43 yards that decided the game.
