Tennessee Titans QB and WR battle for Hard Nose TD

0

The Tennessee Titans celebrate after scoring their first point in the game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The play came with 38 seconds left in the first half when backup quarterback Mason Rudolph found wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for a 15-yard touchdown.

Here’s a look at the piece:

The Titans struggled on offense in the first half with Malik Willis at quarterback. The Titans punted on every drive, but only managed four first downs and never got into the scoring zone.

However, when Rudolph took over, he led a 10-play, 78-yard run that lasted 4:26. Key plays of the run included a 22-yard run by running back Julian Chestnut and two 15-yard passes to receivers Mason Kinsey and the aforementioned touchdown to Westbrook-Ikhine.

While the Titans are well-staffed at the receiver position and will find it difficult to reduce the squad at this point, Westbrook-Ikhine was able to impress in training camp.

“You have to give NWI credit,” quarterback Will Levis said earlier this month. “Nick played well. He's always been a guy that's at the top of his game, and the other receivers always look to him to learn from him and make sure they're at the top of their game because they know Nick is prepared every day. He's a guy that doesn't get enough credit here in this building. [He] deserves a lot of chances and he was paid for a reason.”

Westbrook-Ikhine, 27, signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and played primarily on special teams as a rookie. Over the next three seasons, the former Indiana Hoosier worked his way up the ranks and is now a staple on offense. Westbrook-Ikhine now has 94 receptions for 1,276 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career.

Westbrook-Ikhine has a good chance of playing a bigger role on offense in his fourth season.

At halftime, the Titans trailed the Seahawks 12-7.
