UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis will look to defend his title against two-time champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 on Saturday night from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Adesanya hasn't fought since last September, while du Plessis is coming off a split decision win at UFC 292 in January. Adesanya is the -120 favorite (risk $120 to win $100) in the UFC 305 odds as he looks to win the title for a third time. Which fighter should you back in your UFC 305 bets?

Saturday's main event fights begin at 10 p.m. ET, with preliminary fights at 8 p.m. ET. Other fights on the card include Kai Kara-France vs. Steve Erceg (-190) in a flyweight showdown and Mateusz Gamrot (-440) vs. Dan Hooker at lightweight. UFC 305: Preview between Du Plessis and Adesanya

Adesanya dominated the middleweight division for three and a half years, starting with winning the UFC's interim middleweight championship at UFC 236 in April 2019 and then becoming the unified champion at UFC 243 in October of that year. He began his UFC career 23-1, with his only loss coming when he moved up a weight class to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title in March 2021. Adesanya owns the second-longest winning streak in UFC middleweight division history (12), a streak that ended when he lost the belt to Alex Pereira by TKO in November 2022.

While Adesanya would regain the title in a rematch five months later – becoming the only two-time UFC middleweight champion in promotion history – The Last Stylebender would lose the title to Sean Strickland in a subsequent fight. Du Plessis would then defeat Strickland in January 2024 to win his first UFC title. The South African fighter is undefeated in his UFC career (7-0), winning a total of nine consecutive fights.

Du Plessis (21-2) has a much more diverse arsenal than Adesanya (24-3), as the latter has never been decided by submission in his 27 career fights. Adesanya comes from a kickboxing background and is tied with Anderson Silva for the most knockdowns (13) in UFC middleweight division history. Du Plessis has 10 wins by submission, nine by knockout and two by decision in his career, as he has a background in judo, wrestling, BJJ and kickboxing.

According to the tape's story, du Plessis is five years younger and doesn't have the wear and tear that Adesanya does, as the former champion also has over 80 professional boxing and kickboxing fights on his resume. However, Adesanya has the edge in terms of physical measurements: He is three inches taller and has a four-inch reach advantage and 1.5-inch leg reach. Both fighters are close in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, with du Plessis entering UFC 305 as No. 11 while Adesanya is ranked No. 13. For more UFC 305 picks, visit SportsLine.

UFC 305 Predictions

We're sharing one of Vithlani's UFC 305 picks here: He's betting on Jairzinho Rozenstruik (-250) to get the win over Tai Tuivasa (+205) in a heavyweight bout on the main card. Tuivasa's career went downhill after his second-round knockout of Derrick Lewis in 2022. Since then, he's lost four fights in a row, getting finished each time before the fight ended.

Rozenstruik is not only just as strong as Tuivasa, but also has better conditioning and defense. His best strikes come on counters, and Tuivasa has trouble hiding his strikes. Tuivasa has suffered too many injuries in recent years for Vithlani to consider backing him in this fight.

“Tuivasa's best chance is to catch Rozenstruik off guard with a series of punches and catch him with a circular punch. While that's certainly possible, I feel like Tuivasa has taken too much damage to be trusted against a measured striker like Rozenstruik,” Vithlani told SportsLine.
