Winners and losers of Du Plessis vs. Adesanya Card

0

The UFC is at the RAC Center in Perth, Australia tonight for the UFC 305 pay-per-view card. In the main event, UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis looks to defend his title against two-time former 185-pound champion Israel Adesanya. In the evening's co-headliner bout, Kai Kara-France takes on recent UFC flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg.

The main card for UFC 305 will stream on ESPN+ PPV, following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

Du Plessis has had a rapid rise in the UFC. He joined the organization in 2020 and has compiled a record of 7-0 with five stoppages. The 30-year-old knocked out former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in a title eliminator in July 2023 before taking the middleweight title from Sean Strickland in January 2024. UFC 305 will be Du Plessis' first attempt to defend the UFC middleweight belt.

Adesanya, the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC middleweight rankings, has not entered the Octagon since losing the title to Strickland in a lopsided unanimous decision loss at UFC 293 in September. That loss ended the 35-year-old's second title reign. Adesanya's first run with UFC gold lasted from October 2019, when he knocked out Robert Whittaker in a title unification fight as interim champion. He defended the title five times before losing by knockout to Alex Pereira in November 2022. Adesanya regained the title by knockout against Pereira in April 2023. The fight against Strickland was his first attempt to defend his second run as UFC middleweight titleholder.

Kara France enters tonight's fight card as the No. 4 contender in the UFC flyweight division, while Erceg is ranked No. 7 in the official promotional rankings.

UFC 305 results, winners and losers will be updated live throughout tonight's pay-per-view broadcast.

Winner of UFC 305

Jesus Aguilar: Jesus Aguilar lost his UFC debut in 2022 but has now won three fights in a row after defeating Stewart Nicoll by submission in the opening bout of UFC 305 on Saturday night.

Aguilar, who didn't make the weight on Friday, was aggressive to start and tried to take the fight dirty at the cage, but Nicoll tried a kimura, which sent Aguilar to the mat. Aguilar worked his way back to his feet, however. From there, he did Dustin Poirier proud by jumping over a guillotine, leading to a technical submission win in the first stanza.

UFC 305 Loser

Stewart Nicoll: Stewart Nicoll entered his UFC debut on Saturday undefeated with a record of 7-0. His night did not go well, however, as Jesus Santos Aguilar knocked him unconscious with a guillotine choke.

Nicoll had some moments where he looked good, regaining control on the mat and doing some damage with ground strikes.
