Child accidentally sets fire to shed in Elkton and damages house: Fire Safety Officer

0

Late in the afternoon of August 16, crews from the Singerly Fire Company responded to a home in Hollingsworth Manor in Elkton, where a homeowner reported that his tarp-covered shed was on fire.

More than two dozen firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and bring the fire under control, but damage of about $25,000 had already been caused.

According to the Maryland Fire Marshal, the fire was caused by a five-year-old child who set fire to an object in the shed. The fire was not discovered until the homeowner noticed the flames and smoke.

They added that the fire also caused “extensive radiant heat damage” to the rear of the house as well as neighboring sheds.

No injuries were reported.
