0

UFC 305 is finally here and the event will take place on Saturday, August 17th at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. This will be the promotion's third visit to Perth, the last being in February 2023 at UFC 284. The UFC 305 event is the start of a multi-year partnership that will see the UFC host two events per year in the city. The card will have 12 fights in store for combat sports fans, with the headliner being a title fight.

Dricus du Plessis made history at UFC 297 by becoming the first South African-born UFC champion. At UFC 305, he will defend his middleweight title for the first time, and he will do so against a formidable former champion. Israel Adesanya is a two-time former champion and had one of the most talked about reigns at 185-pounds. The fight between the two has been brewing for several months, and at UFC 305, they make history as this will be the first time two African-born fighters will fight for a UFC title.

The penultimate fight on the card will be in the men's flyweight division. No. 4 seed Kai Kara-France and No. 7 seed Steve Erceg will be the two stepping into the Octagon for this fight. Both Kara-France and Erceg have suffered losses recently and this could be an opportunity to bounce back. Kara-France is representing New Zealand while Erceg is representing Australia, so this could be an interesting fight to keep an eye on.

Also on the main card is a lightweight bout, pitting #5 seed Mateusz Gamrot against #11 seed Dan Hooker. Both Gamrot and Hooker are currently on winning streaks, and this could be an opportunity to extend that, but it could wipe out either of their victories.

There will also be a heavyweight fight on the main card. Tai Tuivasa, competing in front of a home crowd in Australia, is ranked 10th but having currently lost four fights in a row, he is in desperate need of a win. His opponent will be 12th-ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik, who is hoping to get on the winning list more regularly. Both Tuivasa and Rozenstruik are known for their exciting performances and this could be an opportunity to make a statement again and steal the show, this time in Australia.

Kicking off the main event will be a welterweight bout between two unranked opponents within the division. Li Jingliang's last fight took place in 2022 and ended in a loss on points, something he will surely look to change. His opponent, Carlos Prates, has been undefeated since 2019 and has made a name for himself in the UFC since earning a contract with the promotion during season seven of Dana White's Contender Series. With the 170-pound division having a new champion in Belal Muhammad, this fight could be an opportunity to get things moving within the division.

The preliminary fight will be a heavyweight bout. Junior Tafa only made his professional debut in July 2022 and will be looking to work his way back onto the winning list in front of his home crowd in Australia. Valter Walker will be looking to bounce back from his first professional loss in April 2024 with a win over the local hero. Both Tafa and Walker symbolize a new era for the heavyweight division, as these two could well be the faces of the class one day.

The preliminary fight also features a featherweight bout. Joshua Culibao and Ricardo Ramos have both lost two fights in a row and are in desperate need of a win. The preliminary fight is also at 145 pounds. Jack Jenkins has suffered a loss, while his opponent Herbert Burns is looking to turn his luck around and make up for his three losses.

The only women's fight on the card will be in the women's flyweight division. 15th ranked Casey O'Neill will look to defend her position against a very determined Luana Santos. O'Neill is currently on a losing streak of two fights and will look to change that at UFC 305. Santos is currently on a winning streak of five fights in a row and this fight could be the one that finally pushes her into the top 15 in the 125-pound division.

The prelim card also offers fans three more fights when the UFC returns to Perth, Australia. Regardless, UFC 305 is certainly a fight card that people will want to see.

This page will be updated live throughout the night as the action unfolds.
