The “Joy in action” Event organized by the Joy Smith Foundationgot off to a strong start today at Birds Hill Provincial Park, where around 100 participants came together to walk, run and cycle in beautiful weather.

Janet Campbell, CEO of the foundation, was thrilled with the turnout. “We had so much fun here today. I met people who came from all over,” and emphasized the diversity of participants from Manitoba, British Columbia and even Spain.

The name of the event, “Joy in Action,” embodies the foundation's mission to fight human trafficking while fostering a sense of community and hope. Campbell says that despite the dark reality of human trafficking, events like this bring people together to make a difference and show survivors that there is hope and a supportive community behind them.

founder Julia Smithwho was also at the launch, shared her enthusiasm and joked that although she is no longer on staff, she is the foundation's “best volunteer.” Her continued involvement underscores her passion for the cause she has championed for years.

You can still make a difference

The launch event was just the beginning of a week-long series of activities aimed at raising awareness and funds to fight human trafficking. Participants can continue to get involved by walking 5km, running 5km or 10km, cycling 10km, 25km or 50km, or choosing an activity of their choice. The goal is to unite as a community and take small steps that together lead to meaningful change.

All funds raised through the event will directly benefit the Joy Smith Foundation's intervention and prevention programs, which are critical to ending human trafficking in Canada. The Foundation's work helps survivors heal, reunites families and ensures justice is served.

Human trafficking is a widespread problem affecting communities across the country. Victims are often lured through seemingly harmless interactions online or in person. The Joy Smith Foundation's efforts aim to prevent these tragedies and provide critical support to those affected.

Registration for Joy in Action is still open and there is no fee. Every dollar raised will contribute to the foundation's mission to combat human trafficking and support survivors on their path to recovery.
