CLEVELAND — Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. played in Saturday night's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, less than a week after his arrest on domestic violence charges.

Although Hall was not in the starting lineup in the warm-up game with substitutes, he came into the game on the third play of the Cleveland defense.

Hall also practiced on Wednesday, shortly after Avon police arrested him on Tuesday, and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski repeatedly said the team allowed the second-round draft pick to practice because it wanted to “wait for the legal process to play out.”

Although Hall participated in the joint practice with the Vikings at Browns headquarters in Berea on Wednesday, he suffered a stitch and did not finish the session. Due to the injury, Hall was unable to participate in the second and final joint practice between the Browns and Vikings on Thursday.

Hall, 21, is a Cleveland native who graduated from Streetsboro High School and played college football at Ohio State before being selected 54th overall by the Browns in April.

Why was Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. arrested?

According to the police report, officers were dispatched Monday to a home owned by Hall and his fiancée, with whom he had a son last September. Hall's fiancée's mother called 911 and said Hall “pushed her daughter (name redacted) and hit her with a baby bottle,” according to the police report.

The official statement in the police report states that Hall was verbally abusive at times during the incident and dragged his fiancée out of the house and down the driveway by her feet. According to the report, he later punched a hole in a bedroom door and held a gun to her head while allegedly saying, “I'm going to (expletive) put an end to it all. I don't care.”

Hall had already left the apartment before police arrived. He was arrested Tuesday morning and arraigned in Avon Lake Municipal Court, where he posted $10,000 bail and was ordered not to have contact with his fiancée.

What did Mike Hall Jr. do with the Browns?

Before Hall became embroiled in the controversy, he made his NFL preseason debut in the Browns' first exhibition game, a 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers on August 10.

Hall appeared in 29 of 54 defensive snaps (45%) and finished with an assisted tackle.
