Brest vs Olympique Marseille: Ligue 1 – BBC Sport

Mason Greenwood scored twice on his debut and Marseille started the new Ligue 1 season with a convincing 5-1 win at Brest.

The 22-year-old moved from Manchester United to the French club in July for up to £26.6 million.

He opened the scoring after just three minutes, breaking in from the right and shooting into the bottom corner.

Luis Henrique made it 2-0 in the 26th minute before Greenwood scored his second goal from the penalty spot five minutes later.

Mahdi Camara was able to reduce the deficit just before half-time for Brest, who only lost twice last season, but goals from Henrique and debutant Elye Wahi in the second half sealed the clear victory.

Greenwood was a product of United's academy but had not played for the Premier League club since January 2022 and was loaned to Getafe last season before moving to Marseille permanently.

Serious charges against him, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023.

The French club was criticised by the mayor of Marseille after its intention to sign Greenwood was made public.
