Jersey leaks for the Chicago Blackhawks Winter Classic

0

The Chicago Blackhawks will play another outdoor game later this year when they host the St. Louis Blues in the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field on New Year's Eve.

Of course, that means another Blackhawks specialty jersey is on the way, although that jersey may have leaked earlier.

On Saturday morning, images began circulating of a never-before-seen Chicago jersey with a Winter Classic patch on the shoulder. The images came from an Instagram account called 95takengive, an Indonesia-based sports jersey reseller, and according to Icethetics, the jersey is authentic.

Chicago has played in six outdoor games since 2009, including three Winter Classics. However, all of the jerseys the team wore in those games were either black or white, while this one features the iconic red. However, it retains its old-school look thanks to the multiple stripes on the chest and the cream accent color. Blackhawks fans will be happy to hear that the logos on the chest and sleeves have retained the signature chain stitch.

It's also the first look at an outdoor game jersey designed by Fanatics, as the company took over jersey production from Adidas during the offseason. Many hockey fans have expressed concern about the Fanatics takeover, but at least for our money, this jersey looks pretty good.

The Winter Classic in December will be the second to be held at Wrigley Field, home of MLB's Chicago Cubs, after the Blackhawks hosted the Detroit Red Wings there on January 1, 2009, losing 4-6. Wrigley Field is now the second site of multiple Winter Classics, joining Fenway Park in Boston.

Still, this game will surely be a completely new experience compared to the one from all those years ago.

“Those who were there in 2009 will have a completely different experience,” Steve Mayer, NHL senior executive vice president and chief content officer, told NHL.com. “Other than watching a hockey game and seeing the Blackhawks playing, not much will be the same.”
