Perdue recalls 75,500 kilograms of frozen chicken that may contain metal

Perdue Foods said the company recalled more than 75,500 kilograms of frozen chicken products after determining they may have been contaminated with trace amounts of metal.

In a opinion In a press release issued Friday, Perdue said the company had voluntarily recalled 75,500 kilograms of frozen breaded chicken breasts and nuggets after “foreign material” was found in its products following consumer complaints.

“We discovered that the material was a very thin metal wire that accidentally entered the manufacturing process,” said Jeff Shaw, senior vice president of food safety and quality at Perdue.

Shaw added that the recall was made “out of an abundance of caution” and that there have been no reports of injuries or illnesses related to the contaminated products.

The recall affects products manufactured on March 23, 2024 and whose best-before date is March 23, 2025.

The recalled products include:

  • Perdue Simply Smart Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, Gluten Free, Breaded
  • Perdue breaded chicken breast fillets
  • Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast, Fully Frozen, Cooked, Free

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) urged consumers who have these products in their freezer to throw them away.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the FSIS said. said in a statement. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

In November 2023, Tyson Foods recalled approximately 30,000 pounds of frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets after consumers reported finding pieces of metal in the product.
