Astro Bot Dev Build Footage Leaked Almost a Month Before Release

0

Highlights

  • There are only a few weeks left until Astro Bot launches on September 6th.
  • What should have been a cause for celebration is now more of a cause for caution as leaked gameplay footage is circulating.
  • The footage appears to be from a development version of the game and features a number of yet-to-be-announced PlayStation characters.

Nearly a month before the game's release, leaked footage of what appears to be a developer version of Astro Bot appeared on social media.

Things may have been a little quieter in terms of triple-A releases over the last few months, but that's about to change in the next few months. Although August has plenty of big games like Black Myth: Wukong, Star Wars Outlaws, and Visions of Mana, one of the most exciting titles of 2024 – Astro Bot – is coming out a month later in September.

Given Astro Bot’s new popularity, his first VR outing deserves a larger audience

From the moment PlayStation finally confirmed that a new Astro Bot was on the way, it has undeniably become one of the most highly anticipated games of 2024. One of the main reasons for this (aside from the fact that it's Astro Bot, natch) is that we've barely seen any of it, so there are still plenty of surprises to come for players when it releases on September 6th.

If that element of surprise was a huge plus for you too, it might be time to get off the internet. As Redditor oilfloatsinwater reported on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, 15 minutes of Astro Bot gameplay was posted online almost a month before launch.

The leaked footage first appeared on YouTube, but appears to have been made private at the time of writing. It's not clear how whoever uploaded the gameplay gained access to the game, but several Reddit users have pointed out that an FPS counter appears at one point in the footage, suggesting it's from a developer build.

We won't share the gameplay footage or discuss specifics on it, but the footage reportedly shows a number of unannounced PlayStation cameos in Astro Bot, as well as what appears to be a main hub location. It's not the most devastating leak for a triple-A game, but it's possible that more videos and footage will be shared in the coming weeks.

One of the best parts of Astro's Playroom was getting to see all the PlayStation characters, so it's definitely worth avoiding the leak if you want the same magic in the sequel.

Although the original video is private, mirror images of the leaked gameplay have surfaced on social media, so if you don't want to get spoiled on Astro Bot, be careful on Reddit and Twitter.
