PANAJI: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the government is emphasizing responsible and eco-friendly tourism initiatives to preserve Goa's natural beauty and resources for future generations.

“The government emphasizes responsible and eco-friendly tourism initiatives to protect Goa’s natural beauty and resources for future generations,” said Khaunte

He said that infrastructure development is the need of the hour and that the tourism sector in Goa has improved tremendously in the last few years.

Khaunte said Goa is making progress in the tourism sector while preserving our culture, traditional crafts and festivals and rightly focusing on regenerative tourism.

“Goa is increasing its visitor numbers by working in areas such as eco and wellness, yoga, medical and hinterland tourism,” he added

This, he said, creates jobs. He said the government is emphasizing responsible and eco-friendly tourism initiatives to preserve Goa's natural beauty and resources for future generations.

“The government is not just looking at Goa as a beach but also at quality over quantity. He said initiatives like tourism helpline 1364 Goa, Beach Vigil app and the proposed Goa Tourism Promotion, Administration and Regulation Bill, 2024 would go a long way in improving tourism,” he added.

He also informed about the development of infrastructure for tourism facilities for the Old Goa Exposition and how Goa is benefiting from programmes like the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

“Goa is already starting to feel the benefits of these measures,” he said, urging everyone to work together to improve the situation in Goa,” the minister said.

The minister, who is also in-charge of information technology, said the government is working to improve connectivity in rural areas by constructing cell towers and setting up Wi-Fi networks, which would give a boost to tourism in Goa.
