BALTIMORE, Maryland. — A Baltimore resident is celebrating a life-changing win after winning a $50,000 instant grand prize playing THE BIG SPIN scratch-off ticket game. The lucky winner, who prefers to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Selma's Liquors, 4600 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore County.

The man made his big win after stopping by the liquor store after a day at work. Originally he was just going to play his lunchtime numbers, but a spur of the moment decision led him to buy two THE BIG SPIN scratch cards. His curiosity was piqued when he saw another customer buy four of the same kind.

“I saw the guy in front of me buying a few, so I thought, why not give it a try?” the winner said as he told lottery officials about his experience. He scratched off the prize checker area of the first ticket and found that it was not a winner. The second ticket, however, contained the surprise of a lifetime.

“The first one wasn't a winner,” he said, smiling. “But the second one said, 'Congratulations, $50,000 winner.'”

In disbelief, he asked the cashier in the store to confirm his win, which the employee confirmed. “When he told me that, I looked at him and said, 'See you later,'” the winner recalls, still smiling at the memory today.

The winner quickly called his wife to tell her the exciting news. “He called and said, 'You're rich,'” she said, beaming with joy as she accompanied him to the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.

Despite not knowing about the game's “Big Spin Wheel” feature, which allows players to win between $50,000 and $250,000 at lottery headquarters, the winner expressed satisfaction with his $50,000 win. He has not yet decided what he will use his windfall for.

Selma's Liquors will also benefit from the win, as it will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

THE BIG SPIN scratch-off ticket, on sale since April, continues to produce winners across Maryland. So far, four players have visited lottery headquarters to spin the Big Spin Wheel, and four more opportunities remain for future winners. There is also a $50,000 instant top prize still available.
