Weather in Maryland: Warning days for potentially severe storms this weekend

0

BALTIMORE – Your WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued First Alert Weather Days for Saturday and Sunday due to the possibility of strong to severe storms and flash flooding. Although there will be no outright rain today, a frontal boundary will help bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to Baltimore today and tomorrow.

If you're heading to the Ravens' preseason game at M&T Bank Stadium, bring a rain poncho, but the game may not be a washout after all. We'll be watching for evening thunderstorms that could cause a rain delay to the Orioles game.

Saturday

There will still be some clouds today, and showers and a few thunderstorms will continue to develop during the afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms could be severe, especially in the evening hours, bringing damaging winds, hail and heavy rain. It will be a bit windy today, with peak gusts reaching nearly 20 mph at times. We can expect daytime highs around 27°C, with a humid feel.

Saturday night

Skies will remain overcast, with scattered showers. Another 0.25-0.50 inches is possible overnight, with lows in the 70s. A few heavier showers and thunderstorms are possible through midnight.

Sunday

Another day of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Similar to yesterday, some storms may be severe. Sunday's storms bring an additional threat of damaging winds and an even higher chance of flash flooding in some areas. You'll also need to keep an eye on the weather on Sunday. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team will be here throughout the day and evening to keep you updated on severe weather warnings and/or notifications. Storms could occur anytime Sunday, but the window of greatest storm coverage will be between noon and 8 p.m. Otherwise, southerly winds will keep humidity steady and daytime highs will again be just above 80 degrees.

Sunday night

This persistent frontal boundary means that rain is possible until Sunday night. It will be a cloudy and wet night with lows around 21 degrees.

Monday

The start of the week looks to be a transition day as the front continues to move east. This cold front will help keep Ernesto well offshore. However, we will continue to experience dangerous rip currents on the Atlantic beaches of Delaware and Maryland. Please listen to the lifeguards and only swim when they are on duty. We can expect a little more sun, but the possibility of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm remains. It should feel a little cooler in the afternoon, with daytime highs around 27 degrees.

Beautiful route ahead

After Monday, it promises a lovely week with lower humidity and temperatures slightly below average for this time of year. Tuesday promises lovely temperatures with highs between 25 and 25 degrees and plenty of sunshine. Be sure to plan some time outside. In the evenings and nights, it will be quite refreshing and a bit like autumn is just around the corner. Have fun!
