Minecraft 1.22 Update: Possible Release Date, Mobs, Biomes and More

0

Even though the next major Minecraft update, Minecraft 1.22, hasn't been announced yet, we can still speculate about what it might bring to the game. So we've put together this guide to give you some interesting theories about the next update, at least until it's finally announced. Let's discuss when the Minecraft 1.22 update might be released and what features, mobs, and biomes it might bring.

Minecraft Update 1.22 Release Date (Expected)

Considering the release date of the previous major updates (see table below), it is safe to assume that Minecraft 1.22 will probably Publication expected in June 2025. This update may be delayed slightly or released before June depending on the content.

Update Release date
Minecraft1.21 June 13, 2024
Minecraft 1.20 June 7, 2023
Minecraft1.19 June 7, 2022

Name of Minecraft 1.22 (speculation)

I don’t know about you, but I would like to think that Minecraft 1.22 is the Stop update because this is something the community wants the most and it seems to be the second most important feature that urgently needs a rework.

This idea is also supported by the Ender Cup event that was recently organized by Mojang and the MCC team. It seems like the developers chose the name to associate it with the end and could therefore hint at the possibility of the much-requested End update. That would be great news and I couldn't be happier about it.

Furthermore, the fact that Minecraft 1.21's Tricky Trials update only focused on one specific structure and had no impact on any biome could indicate that Mojang may be preparing something big, perhaps the End Update…? Do you want the End Update to be the next big Minecraft release? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

However, some other theories suggest that the update is a Environment update, biome updateor maybe even a Inventory update with the addition of bundles in Minecraft.

This is just speculation, but the latest snapshots and previews may provide clues as to what update is in the works. Until we find that out, you can read our article on things Mojang should add in Minecraft 1.22 for even more ideas and speculation.

New mobs in Minecraft 1.22 (speculation)

If Minecraft 1.22 is the final dimension update, then the list of possible new mobs should be almost endless (pun intended), right? It should new passive mounts, fearsome Enderman cousins, flying, enemy ranged creaturesand even more teleportable mobs.

If the update is focused on improving the overworld biomes and atmosphere, I expect most of the new mobs will be actual animals that are passive and affect the atmosphere of the area. Since the previous update focused on hostile mobs, the idea of this update adding various passive and neutral mobs might not be so impossible.

New biomes in Minecraft 1.22 (speculation)

The Nether update introduced five detailed and unique biomes to this fiery dimension. The final update already has five different biomes, so I assume there won't be any additional biomes in the final update, but the existing ones should be reworked and renamed.

Since all of these areas are made of the same blocks and look and feel pretty much identical, it's no wonder that not everyone knows that there are different biomes at the end. There should be a Forest biome which supplies wood, dangerous biome with gaps in the terrain and slow mobs, and some chill areas which serve as a sort of checkpoint to calm you down after a strenuous journey through the void.

The Nether biomes are essentially perfect, while the Overworld has many areas that can be improved, such as the forests and desert. However, there are only three cave biomes in the game, so I would be happy if more were added to integrate the underground world even better.

New features in Minecraft 1.22 (expected)

Even though we assume that Minecraft 1.22 might be the last update, the new features and blocks it brings can only be great.

First things first, the blocks would have space and alien vibes all over them and have the color purple as their main inspiration. Perhaps they could be associated with both the final dimension and the deep darkness (lore alert!).

The articles range from interesting Food sources and epic new armor trimmings to perhaps new overpowered enchantments and equipment. Since the End is the last dimension you visit and is the boss of the game, the loot should be absolutely worth the risk. Not only that; there should also be a place to store and guard all the loot, which is a new tricky structure would be perfect next to End Cities.

However, let's not get too carried away by the end features and think about the other possible additions to the game. New decorative blocks are always welcome, as are variations of some existing blocks, such as Stairs and slabs made of terracotta and concrete blocks.

Additionally, both redstone wire and minecarts have been improved and changed in the latest snapshot, so we could be looking at hints of new redstone blocks and minecart-related blocks and new entities.

On the other hand, if we think about the April Fools' update “Poisonous Potato” that we received this year, it could be hiding various new, important update features. It brought a dimension full of brand new world generation, mobs, items and structures. There were new decorative blocks, bosses, equipment and even a grappling hook gun.

Poisonous Potato Boss

It's entirely possible that this tease update gave the developers a chance to test out some new features and systems before the main update. There are even a number of possible hints about the final update, so let's keep our fingers crossed and hope it happens.

These are some of the speculations and theories we can share with you before the Minecraft 1.22 update is announced. What is your favorite idea? Would you prefer the End Update or the Biome Update? Feel free to share your thoughts with our community in the comments below.
