Free ORV weekend in Holly Oaks – The Oakland Press

Holly Oaks ORV Park is participating in the Free ORV Weekend hosted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources on Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18.

During these two days, visitors can legally ride on DNR-designated routes and trails without purchasing an ORV license or trail permit. In addition, the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission has waived the entrance fee to Holly Oaks.

“We are excited to participate in this event and invite everyone to come and experience the unique aspects of Holly Oaks,” said Jamie Weasel, park ranger for Holly Oaks ORV Park and Groveland Oaks County Park.

“We have many different types of features that challenge riders and provide thrills for people of all ages. The best part is that the park is built on former and active sand and gravel pits, the terrain is constantly changing and no two visits are the same.”

Visitors must bring their own vehicles as no rentals are available. All types of off-road vehicles are welcome including large vehicles, side-by-sides, ATVs and motorcycles.

All ORV rules and laws still apply. All vehicles entering the park must have a 10-foot orange flag securely displayed and all ORV drivers must sign a waiver prior to entry.

Holly Oaks is open on the free ORV weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Current hours are Fridays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Labor Day, September 2, hours are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Detroit 4Fest, a popular event featuring off-road fun, Ultra4 USA racing, food trucks and more, will be held at the park September 6-8.

The SAE BAJA competition will be held from September 13th to 15th and the MOXC ATV race on October 12th.

Holly Oaks' features include 4×4 trails, singletrack, steep hills, a water crossing, rock crawling and more. There is also a 9,000-square-foot concrete summit called Mt. Magna, designed to replicate the experience of the popular, massive rock formations in Moab, Utah.

Additionally, Holly Oaks ORV Park features the “North 60,” a rock climbing area where riders can find their own trails. It is riddled with old mining roads and offers extreme terrain ranging from mud flats to 40-foot vertical cliffs. A youth riding area with dedicated space for young motorcycle and ATV riders of all abilities allows them to try out off-road riding as more and more novice riders gain confidence in the park.
