Act of ‘political revenge’ by Narendra Modi government: Surjewala on MUDA ‘scam’

Bengaluru: Congress general secretary and Karnataka commissioner Randeep Singh Surjewala on Saturday termed Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA alternate site “scam” as an act of “political revenge” by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. He said the Congress party would fight the fight through legal channels.

Surjewala alleged that the decision was an “act of shameless unconstitutionality” by the governor, who was hell-bent on flouting the law and the Constitution to advance the BJP's conspiracy.

“As part of a brazen political conspiracy hatched in the corridors of the Prime Minister's Office and the Home Ministry in Delhi, against the people of Karnataka and their elected government, the 'puppet Governor of Karnataka' has danced to the tune of his political masters and initiated prosecution against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,” he said in a statement.

He stressed that the Congress is blessed with millions of Kannadigas and won a crucial mandate in the 2023 general elections to serve the people. Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are unable to comprehend their defeat in the state and have tried all possible tricks to defame and destabilise the Congress government.

“Every single attempt has failed miserably and now they are using their 'puppet governor' to hatch a conspiracy to destabilise. The governor is now working with a claimant known as a racketeer to attack the elected government and the chief minister. In doing so, the governor has disregarded and discredited his own constitutional position to a great extent,” he alleged.

He further alleged that the “Machiavellian” conspiracy of the Prime Minister's Office, the Home Ministry and the BJP leadership had three aspects: – An attempt to steal the votes and mandate of the people of Karnataka, which had clearly gone in favour of the Congress party, by exploiting the office of a rag-puppet Governor.

The second option is to attack the Congress government to put into action the BJP's evil plan and stop the five Congress guarantees that benefit over five crore Kannadigas.

The third reads: “Attacking the subordinate class/SC/ST and marginalised sections with a fabricated plan to tarnish the image of India's senior subordinate class Prime Minister Siddaramaiah. Such fabricated and engineered conspiracies will be torn to pieces in the people's court.” Surjewala reiterated that the Congress party and its government will never allow the BJP to succeed in its evil plan to stop the Congress party's guarantees.

“We will fight both legally and in the courts of the people of Karnataka and the country. Truth will prevail. Satyamev Jayate!” he added.
