Berlin shops in the focus of inspectors

Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman visited Berlin retailers Thursday afternoon to promote “Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week,” which ends Saturday. The comptroller was accompanied by Cailey Locklair, president of the Maryland Retailers Alliance, Berlin Mayor Zack Tyndall, Berlin Director of Economic and Community Development Ivy Wells and Berlin City Administrator Mary Bohlen.

During Shop Maryland Tax Free Week, shoppers in Maryland can purchase certain clothing and footwear items priced at $100 off without paying the 6% state sales tax. The first $40 of backpack sales is also exempt from sales tax.

Stops of the auditor on her tour through Berlin, Maryland

Madison Avenue Boutique

Auditor Lierman began her tour with a stop at the Madison Avenue Boutique, a women's clothing store on Main Street owned by Seka Tucker.

Treaty General Store and Relish Decor

Auditor Lierman then stopped by the Treaty General Store, owned by Mark and Hallie Burrier. Auditor Lierman also visited Relish Décor, also owned by the Burriers.

Heart of Gold for Children

Auditor Lierman then visited Heart of Gold Kids, owned by Emily Vocke.

Jun and juice

For the last stop on her tour, Auditor Lierman visited Jun and Juice, owned by Megan and Brett Hines. Jun and Juice is known for making products using locally grown produce.

Tax-free week for purchases in Maryland lasts through Saturday, August 17.
