Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scores the last-minute winner on his debut as Man Utd beat Fulham

Joshua Zirkzee made a dream debut as the summer signing came off the bench to give Manchester United a late win in their Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday.

After a summer of speculation and behind-the-scenes changes, Erik ten Hag – signed after winning the FA Cup against Manchester City – was keen to start the season with a bang at a packed Old Trafford.

United showed promising signs at times but seemed to be failing against Marco Silva's Fulham, but Zirkzee converted a cross from fellow substitute Alejandro Garnacho for a late 1-0 win.

The Dutch international did not play a single minute of United's pre-season friendlies after arriving late after Euro 2024, and his 61st-minute substitution proved to be a brilliant one.

Zirkzee, who arrived from Bologna, came on as part of a double substitution alongside Garnacho, whose cross he fired home in the 87th minute to secure the opening victory.
