BISMARCK – A Bismarck man who was free on domestic violence charges tried to kill someone who tried to stop the suspect from hurting his girlfriend, police said this week.

According to a press release, Bismarck police arrested Jeremy Krueger-Grinnell, 33, in the area of 1700 Volk Drive on Thursday evening, August 16. He faces numerous charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault on a police officer, police said.

Police said Krueger-Grinnell was released on $1,500 bail four hours before the attack. The release was related to a domestic violence charge in June and a charge of violating a protection order on Wednesday, both of which are misdemeanors.

Krueger-Grinnell strangled his girlfriend repeatedly on Thursday night until she lost consciousness, the press release said. Two young children told their neighbors about the attack, and a 43-year-old man tried to intervene, police said.

Krueger-Grinnell then threw the 43-year-old's head to the ground on the street and continued to beat him, police said. Police found the man unconscious and with a bleeding head, the press release said.

According to police, Krueger-Grinnell struggled with officers as they tried to put him in a patrol car. He kicked an officer in the crotch, the press release said.

The 43-year-old, whose identity was not disclosed by the police, was treated in a hospital for serious injuries, police said. His condition is critical, the press release said.

Krueger-Grinnell is being held at the Burleigh Morton Detention Center. He has a lengthy criminal history that includes aggravated assault, burglary, theft, reckless endangerment, eluding police and drug offenses.
