The trainee doctor's parents told the CBI that several interns and doctors at the hospital might be involved in the crime.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the alleged rape and murder of the doctor-educator in Kolkata, said on Friday that at least 30 people involved in the case had been identified. The names of the people were given by the victim's family.

CBI sources reported News18 that they are now looking for a larger conspiracy, suggesting that the incident may have been staged to “suppress something.”

According to sources, the investigative agency has questioned more than 30 people in the past three days and uncovered some clues.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Calcutta Police to the CBI, which had initially handled the case.

Victim's family believes colleagues are involved in crimes

The parents of the trainee doctor, whose half-naked body was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week, told the CBI that several interns and doctors at the hospital could be involved in the crime, according to the news agency PTI reported.

“The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of several people in the sexual harassment and murder of their daughter. They have given the names of some interns and doctors who worked with her in the hospital,” the CBI official said.

In the meantime, the agency is giving top priority to questioning these persons as well as the Kolkata Police officials who were involved in the initial investigation.

On Friday, the CBI summoned a hospital employee and two interns who were on duty with the doctor on the night of her murder. The agency also accompanied former hospital director Sandip Ghosh for questioning.

Ghosh, who resigned two days after the body was discovered, had raised concerns about possible attacks, prompting his lawyer to seek protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court had advised him to approach a single magistrate for further action.
