Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott provides information on the current status of contract extension negotiations

Less than a month before the Dallas Cowboys' season opener, quarterback Dak Prescott is still looking for a new contract that will bind him to the franchise long-term.

Prescott has remained relatively tight-lipped about his contract situation throughout training camp, but hopes the deal will go through soon.

“I'm not too worried about whether it gets done now, but whether it gets done in a few weeks, during the season or whenever,” Prescott said. “I just know the conversations are going in the right direction.”

That Prescott is happy with the status of negotiations is a good sign for the Cowboys, who certainly don't have a long-term plan for the position aside from the veteran who is still playing great football at over 30. Prescott is in the final year of his contract, which is set to pay him a base salary of $29 million.

Prescott threw for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns with nine interceptions last season and completed 69.5% of his passes. His yardage mark and pass completion percentage were both career highs.
