Beau DeMayo says Pride-themed fan art from X-Men '97 led to his second season credits being removed

A long-awaited update has been released by the creator of X-Men '97 who was reportedly fired days before the critically acclaimed series premiered on Disney+.

Beau DeMayo has broken his silence about his alleged dismissal X-Men '97and added that he had received a letter allegedly informing him that Marvel [his] Season 2 Credits” after seeing a post he made about “Gay Pride” during LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

DeMayo wrote in an X-post:

“First, I'm so grateful to have worked on #XMen97 and collaborated with some incredibly talented people. Creating the reboot was a dream come true and the support Tans has shown is so touching. However, after leaving the show, I felt compelled to say something…”

DeMayo continued in subsequent X-posts:

“Above is #XMen fan art I posted on Instagram in June for Gay Pride. On June 13, #Marvel sent me a letter informing me that they had pulled my Season 2 credits because of the post. Unfortunately, this is the latest example of a disturbing pattern I experienced while working on #XMen97 and #Blade.”

“I'll have more to say soon, but need to take a step back from social media to find a safer place to be open, proud, and nerdy,” he concluded. “Please stay tuned.”

This is the first time we have heard a direct statement from DeMayo on this matter.
