Unemployment figures in Wisconsin fell last week

The number of initial jobless claims in Wisconsin fell last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.

Initial jobless claims, an indicator of layoffs, fell to 3,944 in the week ended Aug. 10, from 4,108 in the previous week, the Labor Department said.

In the US, initial jobless claims fell to 227,000 last week, a seasonally adjusted decrease of 7,000 from the previous week (234,000).

North Dakota saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing by 38.9%. Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands saw the largest percentage decrease in new claims, with claims decreasing by 57.6%.
