Free beer and hot wings reveal the truth about the Beach Boys

Hello, idiots.

Tomorrow is our last live show of the season and we're closing out the show in Kokomo, Indiana with our partner station Rock 98.5. People will be up early to attend our live morning show at the Elite Event Center. If you go, we can't wait to see you! If you want to go, tickets are still available.

To celebrate Kokomo, I thought it would be fun to make a little game called Kokomo or KokoNO, comparing Kokomo, IN to Kokomo, FL, made famous by the Beach Boys song of the same name. However, I ran into a big problem:

The Kokomo that the Beach Boys sing about is not a real place.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, am I? This could easily be an example of Gen-Z producer Tommy being young and stupid. That wouldn't shock anyone. But when you sing about such specific places as

Aruba, Jamaica, oh, I want to take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on, pretty mama…

You think it's real! And I'm sure that's the point, but I feel very deceived. The music video was filmed at the Grand Floridian at Disney. They sing that Kokomo is “off the Florida Keys.” I had no reason to believe it wasn't real.

As it turns out, I'm not the only one who didn't know this. Many tourists assume it's a real place, where hotels like the Postcard Inn Beach Resort and Marina used to have a pool bar called “The Kokomo” that listed all the distances to the places mentioned in the song.

Anyway, we will be live in Kokomo, INDIANA tomorrow morning. I just had to share this story.
