Jenna Ortega jumps on TikTok’s “low-key” trend

Jenna Ortega jumps on TikTok's “low-key” trend and has a Beetlejuice Torch.

“See how I do my makeup for work? Very understated, very attentive,” Ortega lip-syncs in a recent video that also features Justin Theroux “putting makeup” on a doll with a shrunken green head.

“I don't look like a clown when I go to work,” she continues. “I don't do too much; I'm very attentive while I'm at work. See how presentable I look?”

“Demure” has become the latest viral trend lately after content creator @joolieannie explained in a TikTok video how she “pays attention” to her appearance at work.

Often, the trend involves people lip-syncing their own renditions to Jools' original song. As with Ortega's video, there's often a humorous twist, such as when Bob the drag queen gradually transformed into the complete opposite of “modest” while posting his own version of the trend.

@Jools Lebron, thanks for reminding me to be reserved. I sometimes forget

As with any trend that explodes on the Internet, there are mixed reactions until the trend permeates the culture enough for marketing companies of all kinds to jump on the bandwagon.

But there is a love for Ortega that cannot be denied – and at least in contrast to the exaggerated aesthetics of Beetlejuice with the audio actually works.

The true story, of course, is that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is hitting theaters in less than a month, and it's time to get excited! The wait has been long, and hopefully the reward will be as sweet.

On September 6, catch original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara alongside Ortega, Theroux, Monica Belluci and Willem Dafoe.
