Tennessee Titans name starting quarterback against Seattle Seahawks

The Tennessee Titans have named quarterback Malik Willis as their starter for Saturday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Brian Callahan told reporters.

Willis reportedly took the most reps with the No. 2 offensive lineman during Thursday's joint practice, so it seems like the natural move to have him start on Saturday.

“[Willis has] “We have earned the right to have the opportunity to play with this group,” Callahan said, according to the Tennessean.

The 25-year-old was selected in the third round by Tennessee in 2022, although many expected him to be ranked significantly higher. However, in his first two seasons, Willis has not seen much playing time and has struggled when he has been on the field. In 11 regular-season games, including three starts as a rookie, Willis has completed 53 percent of his passes for 350 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. During that time, he has also rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown.

Last week in the game against the San Francisco 49ers, Willis completed five of seven passes for 38 yards and added another 42 yards on four attempts.

Willis is currently competing with Mason Rudolph for the backup quarterback job behind starter Will Levis. Levis started last week against the 49ers, with Rudolph and Willis joining later.

Tennessee also announced that its starters will not play on Saturday, so Seattle will not see Levis in the game. The other two quarterbacks will see plenty of action, however, with Willis likely getting the majority of the snaps.

The Seahawks and Titans kick off at 4:00 p.m. PDT at Nissan Stadium, concluding two exciting days of joint training.
