Southern Delaware Chorale seeks new singers on August 27

0

The Southern Delaware Chorale is preparing for its 2024–25 season and is seeking members of all ages who enjoy singing.

You don't have to be an accomplished singer to participate. Many members have participated in school choirs, church choirs, or theater groups. Singers of all abilities find the Southern Delaware Chorale a fun and rewarding way to renew their interest in singing.

The choir is a non-profit, no-audition community choir. Under the direction of Sarah Rose of Lewes and Joseph Shortall of Baltimore, singers are fully immersed in learning quality choral music in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. There is no need to purchase evening gowns or tuxedos, as the attire is plain black.

The first rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 N. Bedford St., Georgetown. There will be a potluck dinner with fried chicken, sides and desserts. Singers can sign up and pick up their sheet music for the December concert. This is an opportunity to meet the conductors and socialize with other members. There will be a short rehearsal at the end for singers to become familiar with the new music.

Rehearsals take place weekly from 6:50 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Concerts planned for the upcoming season include Light of the World, Saturday, December 7, 4 p.m.; A Choral Tapestry: Celebrating Black History Month, Saturday, February 22, 4 p.m.; and In Her Own Words, a choral concert featuring works by women composers, lyricists and poets, Saturday, May 10, 3 p.m. All concerts will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church near Rehoboth Beach.

Members can attend one, two, or all three concerts. The cost for each concert is $75, music included. Those who pre-register to attend all three concerts receive a discounted rate of $200 per year.

The choir will celebrate its 40th anniversary in December 2025 and is already planning a celebratory performance of Handel's “Messiah”, which was sung at the group's inaugural concert in 1985.

The Southern Delaware Chorale welcomes anyone who has a passion for singing and a desire to perform with a group under the direction of two capable and passionate conductors.
