0

South Korean authorities have found that several products from Shein, Temu and AliExpress contain dangerous chemicals that far exceed legal limits, including carcinogens and reproductive toxins.

The World Reports with AFP.

In summary:

  • A Shein shoe model was found to contain phthalate levels 229 times higher than the permitted limit.
  • Lead was found in Temu's sandals in quantities eleven times the permissible limit.
  • Formaldehyde and dioxane have been found in various Shein products, posing serious health risks.

Key quote:

“Phthalate-based plasticizers impair reproductive functions, for example by reducing sperm count, and can cause infertility and even premature births.”

— Environmental health official from Seoul

Why this is important:

Consumers may unknowingly purchase and use products containing harmful chemicals, risking long-term health problems. Regulators are under pressure to enforce stricter safety standards for these globally popular platforms.
