Eric Benét announces release date and tracklist of EP “Duets”

Eric Benét has announced his new EP, Duetswill be released on August 23rd via his label JBR Creative Group.

The five-track set is preceded by “Something We Can Make Love To” with Tamar Braxton. The bedroom jam was produced by Laney Stewart.

In an interview with Rated R&B, Benét recounted how Laney's brother, producer Tricky Stewart, made the necessary connections to make the collaboration possible.

“We went to Atlanta and hung out with Tricky and Laney Stewart. Laney presented us with this song. We thought it was perfect,” Benét told Rated R&B.

“Tricky called Tamar and said, 'Yo, you gotta listen to this joint.' Tamar heard the song and was totally into it. She sounds incredible on it.”

Although Benét and Braxton did not record the song together in the studio, he said Tricky Stewart kept him updated on the song's progress.

“As far as I understand, the song was not intended to be a duet. It was like a guy singing about a girl he wants to get together with. Tricky presented the idea to Tamar and then they made it a duet lyrically,” Benét said.

“I wasn't in the studio when she recorded her vocals, but Tricky texted me and explained everything step by step. Like, 'Yo, she sounds crazy doing this shit. I can't wait for you to hear it.' When I heard the vocals, I was incredibly moved.”

Duets also includes songs with previously announced collaborators Chanté Moore and Corinne Bailey Rae.

While Duets is just an EP, the Grammy-nominated singer confirmed to Rated R&B that a full album version is planned for early 2025. “We've written so many songs that we'll probably put out an album with 10 more songs early this year,” he noted.

Duets is Benét's first project release since his 2016 self-titled album. The album featured the lead single “Sunshine”, which received a remix with Tamia, and the Prince-inspired single “Insane”.
