Dawson Creek: Poison Drug Alert

0

Residents of Dawson Creek and surrounding areas, an important health warning from

Northern Health and the First Nations Health Authority regarding a dangerous new substance in our community. There is an increase in overdoses related to a thick purple drug being sold as a “side effect.”

This drug has caused sudden and severe overdoses, often requiring multiple doses of naloxone to mitigate the effects. Health officials strongly advise taking several precautions to stay safe. It's important to get training in overdose prevention and response and to always carry naloxone with you. Avoid using drugs alone and make sure you have a buddy who knows your plans and can call for help if needed. If you use drugs alone, consider using safety apps like Lifeguard or BeSafe or contact the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677.

Be aware of your tolerance, especially if you have been ill or have been using less for a while, as you may need to use less. It is also important to avoid mixing drugs with alcohol and to start with a small amount if you decide to use. If possible, use the Dawson Creek overdose prevention center for extra safety.

The local overdose prevention center is located at 1001 110 Avenue and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This warning is valid until August 29. Stay informed and take care of yourself and others.
