Activision finally does something about the huge download numbers of Call of Duty

0

Call of Duty Games are known to have huge file sizes, but before the launch on October 25th of BlackOps 6Activision will make some changes so that Call of Duty Titles do not take up as much space on your hard drive – including the separation War zone from the standard download for the annual games.

The standard separation of War zone will take place soon: on August 21st, coinciding with the launch of Season 5 Reloaded. As part of this, if you have an annual Call of Duty game, you can also choose to download War zone if you want. And if you just want to download War zonethat will continue to be an option.

With Season 5 Reloaded, Activision also wants to focus more on texture streaming and players can choose between “optimized” (standard) and “minimal” streaming. In mid-October, Activision plans to introduce a new user interface for browsing in Call of Duty also games.

To prepare for these changes, Activision says you'll need to download a major update as part of the Season 5 rollout that will reorganize game files and add new technology “to pave the way for the full player interface.” Once this update is complete, Activision says: Call of DutyThe space requirement will be reduced due to “file optimizations”. (PlayStation 5 players will need to download a number of updates due to “differences in file organization.”)

Due to the updates, Activision says that BlackOps 6 will be a “smaller download at launch than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.“The company has not specified a specific download size for BlackOps 6 not yet, but it does say that the estimated file sizes shown in pre-order listings do not represent the game's “download size or hard drive space.” (Activision has already had to clarify this after a listing on the Xbox Store page showed a staggering 309.85GB download.)

Activision is also hosting a BlackOps 6 open beta starting on August 30th.
