Lily Collins gives the comeback of the controversial peplum trend a dazzling couture upgrade at the premiere of “Emily in Paris”

The first part of Emily in Paris Season 4 has finally been released on Netflix, after a very a year and a half long wait. To celebrate the highly anticipated debut, the show's cast dressed in their very best at the Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, August 14 – and that includes the actress who plays the titular Emily, Lily Collins.

Lily Collins' on-screen character is nothing short of eccentric (and at times polarizing), both in terms of her personality and her personal style. Collins seemed inspired by all of this as she channeled Emily with not one, but two controversial fashion moments on the red carpet: the peplum trend and the sheer trend.

For the occasion, Collins chose a sleek, custom-made black Armani Privé dress. The strapless gown, which she designed with celebrity stylist Andrew Mukamal, featured a sequined bodice that was accentuated at the waist with an embroidered peplum hem (more on that retro detail later). Beneath the ruffle layer was a checkered sequin skirt that reached the floor and was—if you look closely—semi-sheer.

The Emily in Paris The star completed her outfit with pointy black pumps and diamond earrings. Collins' red carpet appearance was certainly très chic, to say the least.

Collins' doubly polarizing moment isn't just a nod to Emily Cooper. It's another celebrity commitment to two of fashion's biggest trends: peplums and nearly naked clothing.
