Rose Namajunas vs. Erin Blanchfield headlines UFC in Edmonton

0

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that Rose Namajunas and Erin Blanchfield will face each other on November 2nd when the promotion returns to Edmonton.

When it comes to high-profile flyweight fights, it doesn't get much better than this. While Valentina Shevchenko and Alexa Grasso are busy fighting for the title, Rose Namajunas and Erin Blanchfield will be battling it out up north.

It's also a fight that makes a lot of sense, especially considering where they stand in the rankings. Blanchfield is ranked No. 3 while Namajunas is No. 5 – and you'd have to think the winner would have done enough to earn a shot at the crown.

Regardless of who wins, this feels like a massive step in the right direction for this division. After being dominated by Valentina Shevchenko for so long, we are finally in a position where there are real contenders ready to take the next step.

The news was confirmed by Dana White during a chat with Sportsnet.

Rose Namajunas vs Erin Blanchfield confirmed

Rose Namajunas has had mixed success since moving up to flyweight. After becoming a two-time strawweight world champion, she lost a unanimous decision to Manon Fiorot last September. Since then, however, she has reeled off two straight wins, defeating Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez – giving her a 2-0 record in 2024.

On the other hand, Blanchfield will see this as a chance to get back to winning ways. After an incredible winning streak that saw her defeat the likes of Miranda Maverick, Jessica Andrade and Taila Santos, she was beaten by the aforementioned Manon Fiorot via unanimous decision.

Some fans might think that if both of them take the tactical approach it could be a boring affair, but if they both play their best, it's hard to imagine it not being exciting.
