Dragon Age: The Veilguard release date has apparently leaked and is set to be released on Halloween

The release date of Dragon Age: The Veilguard seems to have leaked earlier: the long-awaited sequel to the role-playing game is said to be released on October 31st.

EA and BioWare planned to announce the game's release date later in the day, but the date was previously revealed by a trailer uploaded to Streamable, which was spotted by eagle-eyed Twitter account Wario64.

The release date announcement was supposed to be the first step in The Veilguard's tightly organized release schedule, but it's instead the latest stumbling block on the bumpy marketing road for BioWare's fantasy RPG. In June, the game's reveal trailer received a decidedly mixed reception, introducing the characters as if they were avatars in a hero shooter. The subsequent gameplay reveal calmed the waters somewhat, but still raised some questions about BioWare's direction of the series in a radically changing RPG landscape.

It's not just the marketing side of the game that's causing consternation. Developers BioWare have also made some odd comments about the series, such as claiming that The Veilguard will be the first game in the series where “combat is actually fun” and where characters are “intentionally” the focus of the narrative, neither of which do justice to previous games. However, there have also been some more positive statements from BioWare, such as saying that the game's structure will be “mission-based” rather than open-world, and that players won't be “collecting shards in the hinterlands.”

While the release date itself may have leaked online earlier, the (now somewhat oddly named) release date reveal trailer will still drop at 5pm BST/1pm ET and will hopefully include some more information about the game beyond the said release time. This isn't the only presentation BioWare has planned for August, either. Looking further ahead, on Monday BioWare will detail the game's high-level combat and shine a spotlight on the PC version (which we're guaranteed to be watching like a dragon watches its prey). This will be followed by “Companions Week” starting on August 26th and a Discord Q&A with the developers on August 30th. Let's hope the rest of the roadmap goes a little more smoothly and that BioWare's reveals give us a clearer picture of how the RPG will actually play.
