Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Program is one of the most important initiatives of the Government of Uttar Pradesh dedicated to improving the situation of girls and children in the state. This programme provides financial assistance under the Kanya Sumangala Yojana 2024 to the caregivers or parents of up to two daughters per household. Its main objective is to reduce the infant mortality rate among women and to provide financial assistance to families to ensure that girls receive proper education. Furthermore, this scheme is known as 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana' or 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme'.

The financial assistance under this scheme is designed to cover the education expenses from the birth of a girl child to the completion of Class 12. Only permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh and a maximum of two daughters per household are eligible for this benefit. Kanya Sumangla Yojana Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the eligibility norms for the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Kanya Sumangla Yojana. The scheme is open to girls who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh and born on or after April 1, 2018. The annual family income cannot exceed Rs 3,00,000. Further, the scheme restricts its benefits to a maximum of two girls per household. Adopted girls are also eligible for financial assistance under the Kanya Sumangla Yojana.

Benefits of Chief Minister Kanya Sumangla Scheme

Initially, the Uttar Pradesh government offered a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 distributed in six phases under its scheme. However, from August 30, 2023, the financial benefit under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana for each eligible girl child has been increased to Rs 25,000 in a move hailed by the Chief Minister as a Rakshabandhan gift. This increase means that the beneficiaries will receive the increased amount in the same six phases.
