The most influential players of West Branch football

West Branch returns 20 starters and 4,500 yards of offense from last year's Division IV playoff team (11-2). … Senior RB Boston Mulinix gained 1,186 yards and scored 21 TDs last season. … Senior WR Joey Jackson totaled 1,024 yards receiving last year. … Senior WR Anthony Perry had 769 yards receiving in 2023. … One player to keep an eye on is 6-7', 230-pound junior TE Gavin Gregory, who is being eyed by Division I schools. Gregory will be a key target for the Warriors. … Cat-quick junior Jeremiah Thomas will take over at quarterback for the Warriors after being their third-leading receiver last season. Thomas is an explosive dual-threat who can go the full distance on any play.

What’s new in West Branch football in 2024?

With 20 returning starters, there aren't many brand new players on the roster, with Thomas' move from WR to starting QB being the most significant change. West Branch, which averaged 41.8 points per game last season, should once again be one of the area's most explosive offenses. … Head coach Tim Cooper says the Warriors could be a little more balanced between the running and passing games this season with the dangerous Thomas at quarterback and Mulinix (over 2,500 career rushing yards) in the backfield. They join a trio of receivers: Jackson, Perry and Gregory, who combined for more than 2,500 yards receiving last fall.

Outlook for West Branch football

West Branch has won the Eastern Buckeye Conference four times in a row and is the clear favorite to win its fifth title this season. The Warriors have not lost a league game in five years. With 20 returning starters from an 11-2 playoff team, West Branch should be one of the strongest teams in a completely packed Division IV, Region 13 playoff bracket that includes two defending state champions: Cleveland Glenville and Lake County Perry. The latter was the 2023 Division V state champion but is moving up to Division IV this year. The Warriors will have a stellar non-league schedule with Canfield, Woodridge, Girard, Warren Howland and Youngstown Chaney. Four of those five teams were in the playoffs last year. The Warriors at home against Canfield.
