Last week, Elle King didn't hold back on feelings about her relationship (or lack thereof) with her father, actor and now prominent conservative Rob Schneider, in a podcast interview. Now, Schneider apparently wants to apologize to his daughter … via a chat with Tucker Carlson. In style! On Wednesday, the 60-year-old sat down with the former Fox News pundit to publicly apologize to his daughter, an attempt to ask for forgiveness for sending her to what she calls “fat camp” and forgetting “every single birthday,” among other “toxic” behavior. “I just want to say to my daughter, Elle: I love you, and I wish I had been the father in my 20s that you needed, but I obviously wasn't,” Schneider said. “And I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely. I love you completely.”

“I just want you to be safe and happy with your beautiful baby, Lucky,” he continued. “I wish you the best. I feel terrible and I just want you to know that I don't take anything you say personally.”

Sounds nice, but let's take another look at King's initial complaints, shall we? During his performance at the Stupid blonde On her podcast, the 35-year-old opened up about her father's constant absence from her life. King said she often went four or five years without speaking to her father, aside from the occasional set visit, where she “ever messed up a take, if I talked, then I got in a hell of a lot of trouble.” The singer also recalled how harsh Schneider had been on her regarding her weight and general appearance: “I had already started getting tattoos and it was 100 degrees, so I had to wear sweaters because my dad was very against tattoos or any form of self-expression.” And more recently, King had criticized Schneider's increasing conservatism and stance on LGBTQ+ rights.

“I don't agree with a lot of things he says,” she said. “You talk nonsense and talk shit about drag and, you know, gay rights. And it's like, fuck off.”

King has yet to comment on her father's attempted apology, but has never been one to hold back on her opinions. In the meantime, let's hope Schneider has educated herself on defining boundaries!
