Man of Indian descent convicted of conspiracy to defraud Singapore Football Association

0

Indian-origin man Pallaniappan Ravindran was sentenced to eight weeks in prison for aiding and abetting the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) fraud, in which he stole over SGD 450,000. The 51-year-old was found guilty of conspiring with former FAS deputy director Rikram Jit Singh Randhir Singh.

Ravindran, who ran sports equipment company Myriad Sports & Events, helped Singh and his wife Asya Kirin Kames divert funds from FAS by pretending that Myriad was the supplier, when in reality a company linked to Singh was supplying the goods. The fraudulent activities resulted in the club being defrauded of a total of SGD 457,605.

Singh, identified as the mastermind by Deputy Public Prosecutor Thiagesh Sukumaran, was sentenced to 55 weeks in prison earlier this year. Although Asya faced multiple charges, he was acquitted of the case, thus avoiding further prosecution.
